How you can help
Your company can make a big difference to young people, people with learning difficulties and victims of domestic violence. There are lots of ways to get involved.
Ways to get involved at work:
- Run for Bede – in your own right or create a running team at work.
- Organise an event – hold a dress down day, lunchtime quiz, cake sale, raffle or perhaps a sweepstake on a sporting event. All are great ways to get colleagues involved and create awareness of Bede all while raising urgently-needed funds
- Matched giving – find out if your company would consider matching what you or your team raise, doubling your fundraising total
- Payroll giving- the most tax effective way to give – direct from your pay.

What is Payroll Giving?
Payroll giving enables employees to give to any UK charity straight from their wages. Your donation will come to us automatically every month, straight from your pay packet, until you decide to cancel it. This means that once it is set up, you don’t have to worry about remembering to give again, you will be doing your bit to changing people’s lives in Southwark without even having to think about it!
Importantly, payroll giving is the most tax efficient way that you can donate to Bede. This is because the donation comes out before tax is deducted from your earnings. This means that if you chose to give us £10 from your pay packet, it will only cost you £8. If you pay a higher rate of income tax than the basic rate, this could be even more. Your money could therefore go even further to support all the people who use our services.
How Can I Get Involved?
If you would like to support Bede by giving in this way, your payroll or HR department can tell you if a scheme is already in place. If there is, simply fill out a form with your chosen amount and charity (Bede House Association). You can also choose to give anonymously if you prefer, ask your employer for more details. If your workplace does not have a scheme in place you can download our payroll giving form and simply hand it in to your HR department.

For example….
Joe has severe learning disabilities, but does not meet the criteria for social services
to fund a place for him at a day centre. Stuck at home all day, he becomes depressed
and hardly speaks to anyone. When he shows an interest in coming to Bede, we invite
him straight away free of charge. We know that if we were to delay whilst we tried
to get funding he would feel rejected and lose heart even more. Soon Joe is involved
and enjoying lots of activities. He looks a lot happier, and is keen to chat when
he goes out gardening with his support worker.
Mary used to hang around the estate
after school. Her family didn’t have much money for her to do things. A friend invited
her to come to Bede, and this summer she went for an adventure holiday in the country.
She found out she could climb rocks really well, and it didn’t cost her mum much
at all!
